One Pot Chicken Biryani

What you need:

2 medium size - Onions finely sliced
1 medium sized - Tomato chopped to bits ( de seeded)
2 -3 green chillies- slit in half
3-4 tbsp oil
1 Bay leaf
1/2 tbsp Ginger garlic paste
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp chilli powder
1 tsp coriander powder
1 tsp cumin powder
1/2 tsp garam masala
1/2 cup Mint Leaves or Coriander leaves chopped (optional)
1 tbsp Pepper powder
Salt according to taste
2 cup Basmati or Sona Masoori Rice
1/2 Kg Chicken (washed thoroughly)
1 cup Curd
2.5 - 3 cups Water ( depending on rice)

Method:

  1. In a bowl marinated the chicken with curd and salt pepper for 30- 45 mins and in another bowl soak the rice for 30 mins.
  2. In a pressure cooker add oil and once its hot add the bay leaf, green chillies and onions and fry till onions are brown but not burnt :)
  3. Add the ginger garlic paste and fry take care not to burn and adjust the heat accordingly
  4. Add the tomatoes and let it soften and let the oil out prior to adding all the masalas and mint leaves and fry for 2 mins
  5. Now add the marinated chicken and let mix well, cover with the lid and let the chicken cook 50% this will take about 10 -15 mins
  6. Now add the rice and water and close the lid with the whistle for 2 whistles
  7. Done:) serve with raita and papad .
